Dr. Pizzino

What if you are not broken, but simply bombarded by a culture that wants you to think you are, in order to market “remedies,” “treatments,” and “therapies” to you? Does it feel more comfortable to label yourself with a “known” disorder so that you can identify with others, get support, and (at last) put a name to the incredibly uncomfortable feeling that you are not like other people.

Americans have the highest costs for health care in the world, and the greatest rates of medication usage, particularly for mental health. Are we really that sick, or are these things just “corrals” we are herded into by a culture that wants us to be obedient little sheep? What if there were a way to get the guidance you deserve to optimize your unique endowments, to feel completely comfortable in your “human suit”?

Functional Medicine:
Understanding What’s “Right” With Your Body

Am I suggesting that the aches and dysfunctions of your body or mind aren’t annoying or even life-threatening? Absolutely not! Instead, I am shining a light on all the things that are going right with your body and mind. If “right things” did not outweigh whatever ails you, it would be impossible to read these sentences right now.

In Functional Medicine, we focus on function, the contribution made by a phenomenon to a sustainable system. When a function falls out of sync with all the other complex activities needed to sustain the system, we label it as “wrong” or “bad,” trying to eliminate it or cover it up. What if, instead, we re-tune its vibe to again be in harmony with the music of your unique soul? In Functional Medicine, we draw on all the things going right with your body and mind to support what needs to get back into its groove. When I review laboratory tests with people, I make a point of showing them all the things that are going right that we can use to your advantage.

Vibrant Life (R)Evolution:
Support on Your Healing Path

What might it feel like to work with a mentor, an expert guide with decades of experience identifying the root causes of what seems to be out of balance, and tuning those areas back into harmony? Vibrant Life (R)Evolution—the practice that integral psychologist Tom Ronen Goddard, PhD, and I have created—  is that mentor. Vibrant Life (R)Evolution brings together Dr. Pizzino’s extensive knowledge of how physical components synthesize to create body-mind wellbeing and Dr. Goddard’s decades of experience reading the unique needs of your mind-body in the moment—where you are today—to unleash your vital life force.

Making Yourself Whole

The original meaning of “to heal” is “to make whole”—but perhaps you are not sure how to put all the pieces together.  Vibrant Life (R)Evolution starts with the vision that you are already whole, and guides you in the healing process. This is the wisdom of working with a mentor with an experienced yet fresh perspective. Starting with the discernment of your passion, your deepest heart’s desire, we prune away what no longer serves this passion. We also make sure to supply the natural building blocks of what is necessary to create the strong, healthy vehicle to take you to your dreams.

Using an extensive array of laboratory testing, such as that offered by FunctionHealth.com or IntellxxDNA, we can identify the components that are in sync from those needing support on a physical level. We then combine this with the expertise of a somatic energy therapist to re-tune mental and emotional vibrations which may be contributing to keeping your system out of balance. We bring back into harmony the functions of the autonomic nervous system, which is running everything in the background, allowing your body and mind to resonate in sync.

Cover all the bases, integrating body and mind to live your best life ever. Start your journey through the body to heal the mind, or through the mind to heal the body. If you are not sure, start with a Medical Intuitive consultation to help you focus from the heart. Either way, the route runs full circle and will integrate your parts into a whole being.

A Whole Healing Experience

Let me give you the example of a composite client working both body-mind and mind-body paths. “Betty” is an-already-accomplished 30-something woman. She had created a multi-million dollar charity to help children learn better in a historic southern city. Betty coaches other entrepreneurs to realize their dreams, and felt that she wanted some help to optimize her own physical and mental well-being. Grappling with ADHD, she also wondered if she were on the autism spectrum. She knew she actually is very adept at reading others’ emotions but somehow felt uncomfortable with this.

I guided her to an on-line cognitive assessment of the functioning of various parts of her brain, CNS Vital Signs. She actually was above average on most of this, but the Perception of Emotions test did show some areas outside the norm. Rather than referring her for Asperger’s treatment, a medical intuitive reading suggested she is genuinely so gifted in this area that she cannot confine her perceptions to our culture’s limited concepts of how we “should” interact with others emotionally. She literally has an EQ (Emotional Quotient) off the charts. We worked together to address physical contributors to ADHD, and optimized her physical health for maximum performance. She works with Dr. Goddard to circumvent self-sabotaging ideas and become more comfortable with utilizing her gifts. No matter where you are starting, let go of the idea that you need to be “fixed,” or that some part of you doesn’t “measure up.” Partner with a body-mind or mind-body expert to optimize your full potential.

Poor Sleep: A Silent Threat to Health

A little appreciated hidden health risk, observes Dr. Charles Ferzli of the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre in Cary, is poor sleep. “Indeed,” he says, “quality sleep is a critically important foundation for health, and poor sleep contributes directly to many serious diseases—including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, depression, and more. It is during our nightly sleep cycle that our body regenerates and heals. And when that cycle is disrupted, it affects inflammatory processes in the body, contributing to disease and impairing our ability to heal.

Coming Back from Obesity: Weight Loss and Body Surgery

“Plastic surgery is not a one-step solution to obesity. While body contouring procedures can provide transformative results, they have major limitations on how much fat they can safely remove. Further, not only does excess weight have serious health consequences, but obese patients are at greater risk of complications during and after surgery.”

Hormonal Balance: A Silent Symphony Supporting Health

“Any conversation about the risk of so-called ‘silent diseases,’ will inevitably lead to a discussion of hormones and hormone imbalance,” observes Dr. Jennifer Burch of Central Compounding Pharmacy in Durham. “Osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease—all these conditions are influenced in significant ways by our hormones, and particularly by hormone imbalances.

Hidden Toxins in the Home

Silent Diseases, Hidden Threats: An Integral Approach to Healing

In today’s world, many diseases remain silent until they reach advanced stages. Conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, obesity, and chronic stress quietly undermine our health without immediate symptoms. These hidden threats, compounded by drug side effects and environmental toxins, pose significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment.

The Hidden Threats of Social Platforms

When parents and caregivers think about hidden threats to their children, social media and messaging is a huge source of anxiety for many. At a time when many adults are themselves feeling more isolated and reports of childhood anxiety are rising, it is right to feel cautious. At the end of July, the Senate passed a bipartisan bill proposing new safety and privacy regulations for minors on social media and on-line communication platforms. This work was fueled in large part by testimonies from families whose children succumbed to bullying, harassment, and other negative impacts of on-line networks. While this legislation…

Surgery and Silent Diseases: Proceed With Caution

Among the more challenging aspects of my work,” notes Dr. Gregg, “are the risks involved when a patient has an underlying disease, such as diabetes. “Diabetes patients,” she explains, “have significantly higher risks from surgery because of their high blood sugar levels, especially when the disease is not well controlled. There is an increased risk of infection, slower wound healing, and potential kidney and heart problems. So it is critically important that we evaluate each patient’s case carefully, make sure they are aware of these increased risks, and—most importantly—that we get clearance from the physician helping them manage their diabetes….

The Medicine of Meetings

Founded in 1935, after a meeting between two strangers in Akron, Ohio, Alcoholics Anonymous has helped save and impact countless lives since its inception. Through its unique approach in utilizing a “spiritual solution to a medical problem,” the organization’s famous 12-Step Program has spawned other peer-to-peer “Anonymous” groups with the same basic principle that only those similarly afflicted can truly comprehend a mutual malady. This type of support transcends religious, racial, socioeconomic, and cultural differences, as reflected in A.A.’s two million active members across 120,000 groups in 180 countries. At its core, A.A. is a process by which people get…

Hidden Pain

I believe most of us are walking around carrying some kind of pain. We may experience the loss of a beloved partner, whether through a breakup or death. Many of us grieve parents, grandparents, children, friends, or other loved ones. Some of us have lost jobs or a place to live. Many of us have experienced diminishments to our health or way of life. We may have lost our innocence through betrayal or emotional, physical, or sexual abuse in a relationship that should have been safe. We all have our share of pain. Even if we have support at the…

Are Bio-Identical Hormones the Only Answer for Menopausal Symptoms?

We tend to think that menopause is all about hormones, right? Therefore, taking hormones should provide relief for hot flashes, vaginal dryness, weight gain, moodiness, hair loss, and more. As a physician who has been prescribing bio-identical hormone therapy (BHRT) for women for nearly two decades, I can say that prescription hormones alone often provide only partial answers.
